UTSA Prefreshman Engineering Program...

posted Jan 29, 2018, 8:41 AM by Yvette Perez   [ updated Jan 29, 2018, 8:42 AM ]

The Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP), under the UTSA Institute for P-20 Initiatives, is an academically rigorous mathematics-based summer enrichment program conducted at several college and university campuses in San Antonio, as well as, across the State of Texas and Nation.  PREP identifies middle and high school students who have an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and helps prepare those students for success in advanced studies and careers by providing a challenging academic program that emphasizes the development of abstract reasoning and problem solving skills and exposure to careers through speakers and field trips.

The original Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP) was started in 1979 by the UTSA mathematics professor Dr. Manuel P. Berriozábal. Seven years later, PREP expanded throughout the state and became known as the Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program, or TexPREP for short. In 1997, thanks to a grant from NASA, TexPREP continued to grow and expand across the Nation and is now known simply as PREP.

posted Jan 10, 2018, 8:05 AM by Yvette Perez   [ updated Jan 10, 2018, 8:07 AM ]

Thank a School Board Member!

January is School Board Recognition Month and Uvalde C.I.S.D. is joining other districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools.

School board members serve countless hours working to make public education the best it can be for every child. In a climate of change and challenge, they develop policies and make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues that affect the entire community and the lives of individual students.

Preparing today’s students to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow is a tremendous task. As elected officials, school board members are the voice of their communities, serving first and foremost in the best interest of our schoolchildren

The men and women serving Uvalde C.I.S.D. are: President Stephen Gerdes II, Vice President Javier Flores, Secretary Rob Fowler, Board of Trustee Luis Fernandez, Board of Trustee Roland Sanchez, Board of Trustee Anabel White and Board of Trustee Carlos Fernandez.

Great leadership always begins with a willing heart and a positive attitude. Please join us as we applaud these local leaders for helping our kids soar to success.
